What Should You Do Before Moving House? Top 10 Tips.

Although moving house can be exciting - especially, if you’re moving to a bigger property or a new location - the process itself can be stressful and traumatic. Here are top ten tips that can make the move go smoothly:

Checklists - these are your best friend. You can either create one yourself or find many online. Working your way through a checklist makes moving house much easier!

Clear out - use moving house as an opportunity to sort through your belongings. Think about every item you own and ask yourself “Do I really need this?”. You don’t need to throw stuff in the bin either. Have a car boot sale or make up a box for charity.

Change your address - make a list of all companies and services you use and give them your new address, ideally few weeks in advance. Then you won’t have to worry about having to collect your post from the old property.

Hire a removal company - again, you should to this at least a couple of weeks in advance. Make sure you get at least three quotes before picking the right company. Our website will be super helpful at this point!

Start packing in advance - don’t leave packing to the last minute. Start with things you don’t use on a daily basis. Decide what you will need an easy access to after you move, as you won’t be able to unpack everything on the first day.

Survival kit - make up a box of all the essentials you may need on your moving day, including some basic cutlery, toiletries, first aid kit etc.

Put heavy items in small boxes - make sure your boxes aren’t too heavy to carry.

Parking space - arrange a parking space for the removal van. If you live in London, don’t forget about congestion charges.

Talk to your removal crew - make sure you show them around your house and give them clear instructions. Also, have the kettle boiling a biscuits flowing! Check everywhere - before you leave, have a last good look around to check if you haven’t forgotten anything.

Good luck!
